My name is Jay R. Barrow. I work with children, adolescents, and adults who wish to lead more authentic, meaningful, and fulfilling lives and to face life’s challenges with resilience. My approach to psychotherapy integrates psychoanalytic and existential modalities. The cornerstone of my understanding of psychotherapy is that appreciating and exploring who we are, and how we have arrived here, at a deep level offers us the ability to exercise more choice about where we are going. I respect the power of the human imagination and the capacity to make meaning in assisting people across the lifespan in understanding themselves and the inner workings of their lives.
For all clients, I provide a confidential, trauma-informed space to engage in the exploration and healing necessary to reach their goals. I value the individual lived experiences of each client. For child clients specifically, I provide psychoanalytic play therapy to help children understand and express themselves through both play and language. Psychoanalytic play therapy offers children the opportunity to increase their ability to tolerate complex thoughts and feelings and to build psychological insight and resilience that support their development. My areas of specialization include depression, anxiety, developmental challenges across the lifespan, existential concerns, identity development, personality pathology, and psychological challenges related to chronic illness.
